Bread stamps

Wooden stamps for eulogia bread with the Lamb of God dating from the 19th century from Greece.

The small rectangular stamps are used for stamping bread rolls. The rolls, which are traditionally known as ‘psychoudakia’ meaning ‘little souls’ are given out at memorial services so the soul of the deceased would be forgiven.

These stamps are part of Loulis Mills private collection of 500 bread stamps dating from the 5th to the 20th century
