Bread stamp

Clay Byzantine stamp of the 6th century from Damascus decorated with a Maltese cross. As a simple Eucharistic bread stamp with a cross, it represents early traditions relating to what was depicted on stamps for communion bread.

This stamp is part of Loulis Mills private collection of 500 bread stamps dating from the 5th to the 20th century.
